GALAXY supplied expanded polystyrene for void filling/forming in the bridge. Our client was looking to reduce the weight for the bridge structure, without reducing the strength or durability. The initial idea was to use a form of concrete that has a density range of 1440-1840 kg/m³. GALAXY Expanded Polystyrene not only met the specifications required, but only has a density range of 29-38 kg/m³. Therefore using this meant a total weight of 15 tons, as against a total weight of 865 tons if the concrete had been used. A 98% reduction as well as lower cost and installation time. The client is delighted with the result.
